The most important part of any dental care routine is proper maintenance to support your dental health.
During your regular check-up, x-rays may be taken. We take periapical x-rays that take up-close pictures with great detail as well as panoramic x-rays that take a picture of all of your teeth at once. These x-rays allow us to see in between your teeth, which is an area that cannot be seen with the naked eye and allows for an accurate diagnosis. Digital x-rays allow us to reduce the amount of radiation needed to take an x-ray.
During an oral exam, the dentist carefully measures the depth of gum pockets around a selected number of teeth. Dentists spot trouble in the form of pockets of inflammation or places where gum tissue has eroded slightly, exposing the root of the tooth.
With regular check-ups, the condition of your gum tissue can be compared over time.
Regular cleanings are recommended every six months. During a typical cleaning your dentist or dental hygienist will remove the plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line of all teeth. Plaque that builds up and hardens on the tooth surface can only be removed with professional cleaning. If you have signs of gum diseases, your dentist may recommend professional dental cleaning more than twice a year. Walk-ins are welcome for cleanings.
